Located on the historic Rosengarten estate, Chanticleer is a colorful, contemporary garden that has captured world wide attention for their outstanding plant material and artistic, innovative plant combinations. Described by London's Financial Times as "planted to perfection" and by Garden Design magazine as "America's most inspiring garden.", Chanticleer is truly one of the most imaginative and exciting public gardens in America.
This will be an inspiring and fun day out hosted by Bruce Crawford, Director of Rutgers Gardens. Your day starts with a pick up from Rutgers Gardens with morning coffee & pastries on the bus. On the way to the garden, Bruce will give you some background on Chanticleer, their design aesthetic and how they have achieved such local and international acclaim. Each person receives a garden map which will help you get orientated and make the most of your visit.
At Chanticleer, lunch is al fresco - a fun picnic lunch in the garden where you'll have access to the beautiful cut flower & vegetable gardens. Lunch is catered by Cafe Fleur. Menu is below. (Selection, dietary restrictions & allergies are made at booking). After lunch, is your private estate tour, which gets you behind the scenes meeting gardeners and exclusive access to the Rosengarten home - usually off limits to the public. After the tour there's time to explore more of the garden with Bruce or do some discovery on your own, At our visit the summer garden will be blooming and magnificent: expect to see stunning tropicals unexpectedly mixed with perennials in garden beds near the house; containers and hanging baskets will be overflowing on the terrace and the tennis court garden will be flushing out with color and texture. There are many more rooms to this fascinating garden and we make sure you have plenty of time to explore. You will go home bursting with ideas for your own garden! A camera is a must.
